The Birth of a Dream: The Story Behind My Baking Venture

Hi, I’m Amy, the owner of Squares, your new brownie and blondie haven. I started my business in 2022 when I was 22, fresh out of college with a Foods and Nutrition B.S. and unable to find a job. I have always loved baking and when I discovered you could bake out of your home and provide delicious treats to my community, I decided to hire myself.

My journey began with the creation of the extraordinary Blueberry Lemon Streusel Bar. It starts with a luscious lemony base, made with the fresh lemon zest and pure lemon extract. As you take a bite, your taste buds will be met with the explosion of an exquisite homemade blueberry compote, topped with a crumbly streusel, all elegantly adorned with a sprinkle of lemon zest. Once my family, neighbors, and friends tried this creation and raved over it, I was motivated to continue baking new creations and start my own business.

Once this creation was made, the thought of “Squares” came to mind: a bakery offering a delectable variety of gourmet flavored brownies, blondies, and bars, all cut into squares. It later expanded into providing custom floral cupcakes and cakes. After long hours of researching, licensing, and permitting, Squares was able to become a reality. I operate my home bakery under a Class B CFO; this means I am permitted and inspected by Alameda County Health Department (Permit #PT0326883). I currently ship my brownies and blondies within California and hope to eventually expand the business to be able to ship to the rest of the U.S. in the future.
